Zusammengehörig mit Gm 159_a und Gm 1110. 1Deutsch2012Die linke Tafel des ehemaligen Angst-Altars aus St. Katharina zeigt das Gebet Christi am Ölberg in der Nacht vor seinem Tod. Das noch heute verbreitete Angstläuten am Donnerstagabend der Karwoche erinnert daran. Die Angst Christi wird real als nächtliche Szene ins Bild gesetzt. Ein Engel überbringt ihm das Kreuz als Zeichen des nahen Todes. Hinten nähern sich Soldaten im Gefolge des von einer Fackel hell beleuchteten Verräters Judas. Die Darstellung der Geißelung war einst die Rückseite der Ölberg-Tafel.2Englisch2012The left panel of the former Agony altarpiece of St. Catherine’s shows Christ praying on the Mount of Olives on the night before his death. The widespread tradition, even today, of ringing Agony bells on Thursday evening of the Holy Week is a reminder of this. The nocturnal scene of Christ’s Agony is presented with realism. An angel brings him the cross as a sign of his imminent death. Behind him soldiers approach, following Judas the betrayer, his face lit by a torch.
