Das Blatt befindet sich nicht mehr im ursprünglichen Kontext des gebundenen Buches: Passio Christi ab Alberto Durer Nurenbergensi effigiata cu[m] varij generis carminibus Fratris Benedicti Chelidonij Musophili. Nurnberge [Nürnberg] 1511, fol. A1r; verso: lateinischer Text. Im Gegensatz zu dem verwandten Bildtypus des „Christus im Elend“ (auch: „Christus in der Rast“, vgl. „Herrgottsruhbild“) verweist die Sitzfigur hier aufgrund der vorhandenen Wundmale auf einen Zeitpunkt nach der Kreuzigung und ist daher als Schmerzensmann zu bezeichnen (vgl.
