Mit seiner starren Symmetrie setzt sich das Ensemble deutlich von der wild wuchernden Bebauung Roms ab, die den Eindruck einer lebendig pulsierenden Stadt vermittelt. Rudolf Schoofs Bilder wollen hinter die sichtbare Oberfläche in die tieferen Schichten einer Stadt dringen.This drawing shows the Vatican City, almost diaphanous in its brilliance, in a panoramic view: The cupola of St. Peter’s Church and its great square including the forecourt, into which leads the long axis of the “Street of the Reconciliation”, built by the Fascist Regime. With its rigid symmetry the ensemble clearly contrasts with the proliferating development of Rome, which conveys the impression of a vibrantly pulsating city.
